  • NO BIRD FLU IN NEPAL
    Kathmandu, July 3: Nepal has not witnessed bird flu so far but it is vulnerable, according to the information imparted in a programme organized by the Department of Livestock here today. Regarding this problem, Nepal Government has banned import of poultry and poultry-related goods from India and China, which have been already gripped into its hazard. Speaking at the programme, Dr. Dhan Raj Ratal informed that all livestock quarantine offices and check posts were kept in high-alert to avoid the outbreak of bird flu. He also urged all to inform if any disease seen in the poultry or died suddenly. Similarly another Dr Narayan Ghimire said the participatory disease curative units were set up in the district to scrutinize the disease. RSS

  • CA MEETING POSTPONED
    Kathmandu, July 3: The CA meeting in the capacity of the legislature-parliament has been postponed after the Madhes-based partied disrupted the proceeding today. The CA members of the Madhesi People's Rights Forum, Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, and Sadbhavana Party chanted slogans picketing the rostrum immediately after the meeting began. They demanded to guarantee the whole Madhes a single province and the in-group induction of the Madhesi people in the Nepal army. Today is the 7th day the meeting disrupted. The meeting would be held at 11:00 am tomorrow. RSS

  • AWARDS TO JOSHI AND INLS-A
    Kathmandu, July 3: Nepal Education Board has decided to honour Angur Baba Joshi with this year’s Adikavi Bhanubhakta Award. A meeting held under the chairmanship of the Board Chief and Poet-to-the-Nation, Madhav Prasad Ghimire decided to honour Joshi with the award for her special contribution to the education sector. The award would be provided on July 13 on the occasion of the birth day of late pioneering poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.

  • GOODS OF THE NATIONAL TRUST NOT RETURNED
    Lalitpur, July 3: Vehicles and computers of the National Nature Conservation Trust (NNCT) used by the ex-King Gyanendra Shah and Ex- Crown Prince have not been returned so far even if written time and again from the Trust. Trust Member Secretary Bimal Kumar Baniya said although letters were written to return the goods, the letters were not responded. Expensive vehicles and computers have not been returned even after the ex-king left the Narayanhity palace, he said. The Transport Management Office, traffic and police offices were also written for the same, he said. The administration is requested to handover the good by taking under control if seen on the road, he said. The Nirmal Niwas has been using the three laptop computers, one desk top computer, one air compressor, and Ba 1 Cha 6418 Toyota Crown, Ba 3 Cha 7812 Toyota Land Cruiser and Ba 3 Cha 7962 bought at a cost of over Rs. 7 million. Agro vehicle worth Rs. 1 million meant for the bio-diversity centre at Sauraha in Chitwan, has also been used by the palace, he said. The Australian vehicle known as Kwad is used for agricultural works and can be driven along river banks, Himalayan region, and the hills. We have no information as to where these vehicles are after the king left the palace, said Baniya. Tens of millions of rupees of the Trust were said to be misused in the trust led in the past by the king, crown prince and princes. An Economic and Administrative Review Sub-Committee constituted under the convenorship of Trust’s Management Committee Member Manu Humagain had already made a report public regarding the misappropriation.   • JUVENILE COURT TO BE FORMED
    Lalitpur, July 3: The meeting of Juvenile Justice Central Implementation Committee, held today, decided to form Kathmandu Valley Juvenile Court, immediately. Executive Director of Central Child Welfare Committee, Dharmaraj Shrestha said the Kathmandu Valley Juvenile Court would be formed within few months. At present, Juvenile benches have been established in 26 districts, however, Child Act 2048 BS states that separate juvenile courts would be established in 75 districts. RSS

  • TWO HELD FOR MAKING FAKE CURRENCY NOTES
    Waling, July 4: Cadres of Young Communist League captured two kingpins of a gang involved in making fake currency notes along with equipment used in making fake notes. Thee two were arrested red-handed while making fake notes from Andhimuhan of Srikrishnagandaki VDC-8 of Syangja district by a TCL team led by Khuman rana and handed over to ward police office, Waling. The arrested are Sukra Raj Tamang (53), a permanent resident of Chuhandanda VDC-2 of Terhathum who is currently living in Lalitpur, and Mohammad Aziz Miya, a permanent resident of Dulegauda in Tanahu and currently living in Gwarko of Lalitpur. Equipment, paper and chemicals used in making the fake notes were also seized from them. The arrested said they learnt the business from Bharat Rai of Siliguri in India. They admitted to transacting fake notes worth Rs 400,000. While Tamang was in the business for the last four years, Miya was involved in it some eight months ago. Police said other members of the gang – Sagar BK of Palung in Makwanpur and Arabi Saila of Kukurmara in Nawalparasi – have been absconding. RSS

  • SSB MEN ARREST ONE WITH FAKE NOTES
    Parsa, July 4: India’s Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB) personnel have arrested Prabhakar Saaha of Diuliya of West Champaran of Bihar while he was trying entering into Nepal along with fake Indian currency notes. SSB personnel had entered the Nepali territory some 500 metres from the border to capture Saha. He was seized from near the Ramjanaki temple in Janakitola VDC-1 of Nawalparasi district.

  • PRIME MINISTER GIVEN INVITATION OF SAARC SUMMIT IN COLOMBO
    Kathmandu, July 2: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has received invitation to attend the 15th Summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), which is being held on 2-3 August in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama handed over the invitation letter on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse's behalf to the Prime Minister Koirala today. Foreign Secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya said even a discussion on mutual help was held between the PM and Foreign Minister Bogollagama at Baluwatar. Similarly, another invitation letter to the Foreign Minister was handed over to Foreign Secretary Acharya.

  • BISHWAS ABANDONS FORUM
    Kathmandu, July 2: Vice President of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Kishor Kumar Bishwas has resigned from his post alleging that the activities shown by Madhesi parties in the Constituent Assembly, hurt the identity and autonomy of indigenous people, nationalities and suppressed classes of Terai. Organizing a press conference, here today, he said he remained in the opposition of ‘one-Madhes-one-province’ because it would pose threat to national indivisibility. In the program, President of Tharuhat State Council, Laxman Tharu said the country would crumble down if all Madhes were made one province. President of Nepal Democratic Socialist Party, Upendra Gachchadar said all 25 parties should be consulted while making any significant decision.

  • DEUBA ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT OF SI
    Kathmandu, July 2: The 23 th Congress of the Socialist International (SI) held from June 30- July 2 in the Greek capital Athens has elected Nepali Congress leader and ex-Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Dueba as its vice President for a term of four years. He will be representing Asia there. SI has more than 160 socialist and democratic political parties of the world's 120 countries as members. The meeting also re-elected President George Papandreou and General Secretary Luis Ayala to their respective posts, the Nepali Congress Central Office said. RSS
